the roof! the roof! the roof is in my yard!

Well, not exactly. Considering how bad it could have been - I was lucky to only wind up with a lot shingles in my yard. Considering the roof had "maybe a year" left in it according to the home inspector - Im surprised that it the damage wasn't worse. Wow! That sounded rather glass half full didn't it? No one is more surprised than me.

However, with Ike looming in the near future I wasnt certain on what exactly to do at this point. No time for a new roof - not with all people that actually lost roofs in the area. Not ready for one either. I still want to get the house leveled before having a new roof for obvious reasons.  So what to do? What to do?

Who knew that reconnecting with a college friend through Facebook would hold the answer? Seriously, my luck doesn't normally go in the direction of "good" very often. My friend Ginny and her husband lost shingles during hurricane Rita in Lake Charles. They ended up having to do it themselves, and learned as they went. They offered to come here and help me patch what can be patched. We may end up having to tarp some area(s) - but its better than nothing. Knowing how old the house is, and the fact that there has been leaks in the past - I would really rather not have one more (costly) thing to have to deal with. Leveling, roof and likely windows - are pretty much going to consume what budget I currently have.

So to recap:

Boo Gustav!

Hooray Ginny & Aaron!

how I spent my day

(testing the mobile posting of photos)

Besides working on the blog, I had the TV on the Weather Channel all day. I was just wondering exactly WHEN I turned into my father?

In my defense, I am watching it because Im in the path of Gustav and not watching it for the entertainment value that some more "mature" people seem to get from it.

just testing the mobile posting

Now that I have the blog set up and working to some degree - I wanted
to get even more nerdy and be able to post by phone. I know, I am
soooo 2006. Touch me. No really, please.

first post. last post?

I had been toying with the idea of doing my website as a blog for a little while. Not that I have much tto say - or that which I have to say would terribly interesting.  Mostly it was to learn more about web programming. (Which really, anything would be "more" at this point) A friend pointed me to squarespace. So simple. So easy. I decided I really didnt need to learn too much about web programming - its not as though Id ever get to a point where I could tout myself as a programmer. (I can barely call myself a designer as it is.) So that's that.

Now, Im just putting it together while burying my head in the sand (figuratively) in regards to Gustav. I moved to Lafayette after losing everything in Katrina. I was offered a job here within two weeks after Katrina hit - and while I was sofa surfing at friends houses, Rita hit. I decided to stay for Gustav. Im so over running from storms - and if I lose it all, I wont have wait to find out this time. Could it be dangerous? Sure. Could it end up being 'not a big deal'? Sure. (Though thats looking unlikely.) Only time will tell. I did decide that if I get wiped out once again Im going to move somewhere with a better climate and just start over. That is a huge deal for someone that isn't all that comfortable with drastic or abrupt change. Guess if that happens Ill just have to 'man up' and deal with it.

In the meantime, Im going to secure what I can and enjoy the cable and AC for as long as I have power.
